Race, Justice and Reform

This three credit seminar in Race, Justice, and Reform focuses on (1) how the criminal justice system impacts our communities; (2) how laws, policies, and practices disparately impact communities of color and perpetuate structural economic inequality; (3) and how Massachusetts and other states have struggled and currently struggle to reform their criminal justice systems. Students select topics related to criminal justice reform and develop narratives exhibiting how the criminal justice system affects individuals, families, and communities. The narratives are interwoven with facts, statistics, empirical studies, reform efforts, and, on occasion, brain science.
