This directed study introduces students to the fundamentals of civil rights litigation as a remedy for police and jail misconduct under Section 1983. Students examine the dockets of litigated cases to sharpen practical skills in fact development and substantive legal knowledge in civil rights law.  With the collaboration of instructors and non-lawyer community members, students develop a “know-your-rights” training module in Section 1983 police misconduct law. Students deliver the training to a local community group in the Boston area.  In Fall 2025, eight students were selected for the course.
