This year, NABJ chose Press and Prosperity: NABJ Meets Black Wall Street, as their theme. Journalists, print, digital and broadcast, were in attendance from states including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia and Texas. These locations also feature prominently in the Burnham-Nobles Digital Archive.

Aside from professional interest, using the archive to enrich their reporting, some journalists expressed a personal intrigue in the records contained within CRRJ’s archive. They shared personal stories of loved ones and relatives that were killed by white perpetrators in the Jim Crow South.

As well as a tour of the historic Greenwood area, where Black businesses were targeted and destroyed by violent racists in June 1921, there were many breakout sessions on topics including AI and social media.

The event was sponsored by CRRJ.
