In December 1953, Moses Jones, 35 years old, was shot to death by Sheriff Jenkins Hill in Clarke County, Alabama. State and federal authorities investigated Jones’ death. A Clarke County jury declined to indict Hill. A federal grand jury returned an indictment, but that case was dismissed in 1956.
